Merge Two Text Files into One 📄➕📄

Want to combine two ASCII arts or text files into one? Open the last option in the toolbar to do just that! You can choose where to place each file and even set a transparent character to control how they overlap.

This is perfect if you want to build larger pieces of art or add decorations, borders, or logos to your existing canvas. It works whether you're placing one file below, next to, or on top of the other.

Adding Text To ASCII Art

If you've generated text art with the built-in tool, you can add it to your existing drawing using this merge feature. Just load the text art as one of the files, then position it exactly where you want on the canvas. You can place it above, below, to the side, or even layered right on top of your ASCII art.

How to Merge

  • Select the last icon in the toolbar (Merge Text Files).
  • Paste your text you want to add to the canvas.
  • Use the arrow buttons to adjust the position of each one: move left, right, up, or down.
  • Set the transparent character (default is space). This tells the tool which characters to ignore when overlapping.
  • Click Merge to create the final result on the canvas.

Transparent Character Explained

The transparent character is treated like empty space when merging. For example, if File A has a space character and File B has a letter in the same spot, the letter will show through. By default, space is used as the see-through character.

In this example the space is the transparent character which allows us to see through the windows.

It's Like Layering Stickers 🧃

Imagine you have two sticker sheets. You can place one below the other, next to it, or even stick them over each other. If parts of one are transparent (like clear plastic), you'll see the other underneath. That's how merging works here!

FAQ ❓

What file types are supported?

Text files, ASCII arts or any matrix of characters. Just make sure they're not too large.

Can I undo a merge?

Yes! Just click the Undo button to go back to the previous state.

What happens if both files have a character in the same spot?

The top file's character will show, unless it's the transparent one - then the bottom file's character appears.

Can I adjust one file after merging?

Not directly, but you can undo, shift its position again, and re-merge.
